Blogger Q&A

HOW DID YOU START BLOGGING?

I started blogging whilst I was at university and was reading a lot of blogs in my spare time. I decided that it would be a good outlet for my photography work as well as my outfit posts! I actually started another blog with a friend and then we decided to go onto our own separate sites.

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO PERSONAL STYLE?

I take inspiration from many sources: Other blogs, street style, celebrities, etc but I think my personal style is not too influenced by external sources – I just wear what I think looks good!

WHAT OTHER BLOGS DO YOU READ?

I read so many blogs, it becomes kind of addictive! My favourites include Kimberley Gordons Wildfox blog, Christeric, Oracle Fox, song of style, and The Pinstripe prince to name but a few!

YOUR BLOG – IS IT BUSINESS OR PURE FUN?

I guess it is a bit of both, It is business in the sense that it is a good advert for my photography work and links to my freelance photography business. I have to admit most of my freelance work comes from people looking at my blog. I do however really enjoy blogging so its also a lot of fun!

WHO’S YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DESIGNER?

I absolutely love Rick Owens.

WHAT IN HIS/HER DESIGN IS IT THAT DOES IT FOR YOU?

I just love the fit and cut of his designs. I have been lucky enough to own a couple of his pieces (through bargain hunting!!) and the fit is impeccable. They are very simple and elegant designs but they are incredibly flattering on and the black dress I have is my staple ‘little black dress’.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE?

I would love to be doing what I love and working full time as a photographer working with amazing models, designers and being able to travel to new places.

DO YOU INTERACT WITH YOUR READERS?

I like to think I interact with my readers, I do always make time to visit all of their blogs and comment on their posts when they leave comments on my own blog. I also interact through facebook and twitter and hope that this makes it a little more personal.

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU TO HAVE A LOT OF READERS?

Its vital that the blog has a lot of readers for it to succeed and move to the next level, but its also nice on a personal level to know that so many people find my blog inspiring and enjoy reading it.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A CELEBRITY?

No way!! I have only been recognised a couple of times in London and I found it quite bizarre. I think I remain quite elusive as I don’t go to every single fashion event or press event i’m invited to.

WHAT HAS BLOGGING MEANT TO YOU – WHAT HAS BEEN THE OUTCOME?

Blogging has been great for my career and for the exposure it has given me. But its also a very rewarding experience as I am very proud of my site and how far it has come. I was overwhelmed when it reached over 1 million hits recently.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR LIFE WOULD BE LIKE IF YOU NEVER STARTED BLOGGING?

I guess I would still be trying to do the same things in life and work in fashion and photography, but I don’t think I would have come as far as I have and I would have missed out on so many amazing opportunities and experiences the blog has brought my way.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO GET OUT OF BEING A MEMBER OF BLOGGER’S WARDROBE?

I hope that bloggers wardrobe will give me some great exposure to new readers and brands as well as giving me the opportunity to become part of an exciting site and be able to work with some incredible designers trying out great products.

HOW DID YOU START BLOGGING?

I started my first blog, not because I wanted to post on it, but because I wanted to design it. I used to spend half my free time playing around in photoshop while I was in high school. Eventually, through this love of design and my love of photography, I started to become interested in all aspect of fashion. I discovered lookbook, and my boyfriend I decided to try it because we both loved the idea. One day a friend of ours suggested we start our own blog together, so that we would be mixing men’s and women’s fashion in one. That was a bit over a year ago! We called it just another fashion blog because so many amazing blogs already existed at the time.

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO PERSONAL STYLE?

I read a lot of blogs each day, which is a great way to get inspiration at a daily rate. What magazines once offered is not as much as blogs can now, just because of a timing issue. And through reading all these blogs, my own style has evolved into who I am, and continues to evolve daily.

WHAT OTHER BLOGS DO YOU READ?

My favourite is currently Fashion Toast because both the photography and her style is just breathtaking. I love Park and Cube and Garance Dore because of their writing above anything else. Of course you can’t ignore Shini’s gorgeous photos, and Garance’s lovely illustrations! Other blogs include Fashion Squad, Stockholm Streetstyle, FrouFrouu, I love Wildfox, Knight Cat, Natalie Off Duty, Ponyhunter, Tuula, and Fashion Gone Rogue. There’s about sixty others, but I won’t bore you by listing all of them!

WHAT’S YOUR GOAL WITH YOUR BLOG AND BLOGGING?

I just want to connect with people with the same interests as me from all over the world! I like the idea of sharing things that inspire me to continue its influence to others. Kind of a pay-it-forward idea.

YOUR BLOG – IS IT BUSINESS OR PURE FUN?

I wouldn’t consider my blog a business. I want to keep it fun. I did start my own business as a continuation of the blog. It’s a weekly interactive fashion magazine for the iPad called Just Another Fashion Magazine. It’s a mix of a style blog and a magazine, filled with wishlists, featured bloggers and photographers, a week of my own outfits, streetstyle inspirations, fashion photoshoots and other special features that change from week to week. Of course, the blog is still just as important, and is a much more personal, daily fashion diary filled with those things that inspire me, my own style and daily adventures in my life.

WHO’S YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DESIGNER?

Currently, I’d have to say Acne.

WHAT IN HIS/HER DESIGN IS IT THAT DOES IT FOR YOU?

Acne always manages to play with shapes and textures in a subtly obvious way. I love clean designs, with attention to detail, because at first glance, it almost looks ordinary. Plus Acne always has a good mix of simple pieces and statement pieces, both equally beautiful.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE?

I have enough dreams to spread over the entire world. When I’m not thinking, I’m dreaming. Sometimes it becomes hard to separate the two. My current dream is that my magazine becomes successful enough that I can live off of it. Once that happens, I’ll start thinking my other dreams out loud.

DO YOU INTERACT WITH YOUR READERS?

Interacting with my readers has become so much easier with twitter, Facebook, and instagram. I love connecting with my readers since we have so much in common. I’ve started many new friendships through lookbook and through the blog and I hope this continues!

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU TO HAVE A LOT OF READERS?

I don’t necessarily find that the quality of a blog can be measured by the amount of its readers. There’s so many blogs I read that have way too few readers than they might deserve. Naturally, it’s nice to have many readers because you begin to realize that people appreciate what you’re posting and get inspired by it. It’s a huge compliment! But I’m one of those people that will look at the numbers maybe once a week, and am surprised at how many new followers I have, and it just pushes me to keep going.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A CELEBRITY?

Me, a celebrity? Not at all! We were in Toronto visiting my family during the winter, and this guy recognized Gabriel and I from our blog. That was the first time we ever met a fan, and it’s was kind of a funny feeling.

WHAT HAD BLOGGING MEANT TO YOU – WHAT HAS BEEN THE OUTCOME?

Blogging has made me into the person I am today. I discovered myself, quite literally. Before I was this shy little girl, who had a lot of clothes, but not really any style. I wanted to be an architect, spending the rest of my life doing something that I loved only about 75% of the time. Through blogging, this has all changed, and I’ve realized I can control my own life and its outcomes. I can love what I’m doing 100% of the time. I think that’s the most important thing for people, is to find something that they will love doing, and will love doing for the rest of their lives.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR LIFE WOULD BE LIKE IF YOU NEVER STARTED BLOGGING?

I have absolutely no idea. One way or another, I’m sure I would have found my path. It probably would have taken 10 times longer, but to some degree, I do believe in fate.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO GET OUT OF BEING A MEMBER OF BLOGGER’S WARDROBE?

Blogger’s Wardrobe is such an amazing concept, and both the bloggers and brands that are already part of BW are so impressive. I am overwhelmed and in awe to be a part of it. I can’t wait to connect with these bloggers and brands, and I hope it continues to expand the reach of my blog. I’m not quite sure what to expect, but I’m certain it will be an amazing adventure!

HI AMANDA! HOW DID YOU FIRST START BLOGGING?
I think it started as some sort of diary when I was 17. I’ve always liked to write about deep shit, feelings and stuff, then I started to post photos of my clothes, and it turned into a fashion blog just like that.

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO PERSONAL STYLE?

Most of the ideas are in my head, and the inspiration usually comes from a single piece. I can see a pair of shoes or just a cap and then I begin to visualize the entire constellation. I also love to get inspiration from walking around in second hand stores. I think that would be my greatest inspiration.

WHAT OTHER BLOGS DO YOU READ?

I pretty much only read international blogs. I think I’m a bit tired of the Swedish blogs, because we’re all pretty similar. Or everybody knows each other, which makes everything so small in a way. I don’t know, maybe that’s just in my head. Anyways. I really like Oracle Fox, Bleach Black, Thathipsterporn (young folks beware) and Christeric.

WHAT’S YOUR GOAL WITH YOUR BLOG AND BLOGGING?

Hard to say. I think at this point my goal is to focus a bit more on my blogging because I’ve really been such a bad blogger the past year, even if I really want to be awesome, you know? Although I’m always myself on the blog, I have a tendency to forget to share all the fun things my days include, both work and private. I want be even more intimate and not only superficial. So yeah, share more of myself, easy enough.

YOUR BLOG – IS IT BUSINESS OR PURE FUN?

Both. It always has been a bit of a business, but I would not be able to stop blogging even if it wasn’t. It’s an addiction and my better half.

WHO’S YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DESIGNER?

I always loved Balmain, even though I can’t afford anything.

WHAT IN HIS/HER DESIGN IS IT THAT DOES IT FOR YOU?

I love the glam rock style. Studs, heavy leather and trashed jeans. Balmain has the ability to turn a very eye-catching garment into something cool and casual.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE?

Oh man, this is such a hard question to answer. Someday I want to have my own vintage store, with a small bar and a café inside, so you could combine shopping, drinking and just hanging around. It would be so nice. Other than that I want to continue what I’m doing right know, and just develop in all possible directions.

DO YOU INTERACT WITH YOUR READERS?

I could be so much better at interacting, but in some way my readers are like online-friends to me. The blog is my diary and the ones I write to are my readers. So I guess still, in some way I do. Maybe that was a weird answer for the question, but yeah.

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU TO HAVE A LOT OF READERS?

Not important at all. A couple of years ago I really was obsessed with having a lot of traffic, and I always tried to find ways to make it even bigger, but now I don’t care that much. I just want do my thing, and I’m happy about the ones who wants to read my blog when I’m not trying to satisfying everyone – I’m just being myself.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A CELEBRITY?

No, definitely not. I feel no more remarkable than anyone else.

WHAT HAS BLOGGING MEANT TO YOU – WHAT HAS BEEN THE OUTCOME?

As I said before it’s like my better half or something. At least I would feel a bit naked without it. Since I was 17, almost all of my jobs has had something to do with the blog in the beginning, then maybe it turned out to be something else in the end (like my DJ-gigs and club jobs for example). But I mean, I wouldn’t have done even half as much if I didn’t have the blog to start with.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR LIFE WOULD BE LIKE IF YOU NEVER STARTED BLOGGING?

Haha, I have no idea! I’ve always been a creative person, so I guess I would have worked with something close to what I do now anyways, but it would have been so much harder to get here. Otherwise I would probably work with music in some way, I’ve always wanted to write my own songs. I’ve tried several times (didn’t turn out very well though). My dad has a small studio at home, so maybe I would be stuck there trying to make a career in music.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO GET OUT OF BEING A MEMBER OF BLOGGER’S WARDROBE?

I hope to find new favorite bloggers and maybe make some new international friends as well – it would be so much fun. I really want to be more serious about my blog, and I think this could be a good kick in the ass. I want to get inspired by all the other amazing people who are Blogger’s Wardrobe members. And of course I hope to find a new favorite brand or something. I feel very excited about it all!

MARIANA – WELCOME TO BLOGGER’S WARDROBE!

SO, HOW DID YOU START BLOGGING?

Actually I started by simply posting my outfits on Lookbook. After a while, I felt like that platform wasn’t allowing me to post about a whole variety of things neither did it let me have full interaction with my readers. And so I decided to create a blog, and “Miss Tangerine” was born!

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO PERSONAL STYLE?

I don’t think I can say I have one major source of inspiration. For me, inspiration can be found anywhere. Sometimes it comes from the people around me, sometimes it comes from other blogs, sometimes it comes from how the sky looks like that day… it’s really a random thing!

WHAT OTHER BLOGS DO YOU READ?

My all time favourite blogs must be Kayture, Lovely Pepa, Style Scrapbook and Snake’s Nest. Those are the ones I read everyday.

WHAT’S YOUR GOAL WITH YOUR BLOG AND BLOGGING?

My prime goal is simply to share my views on fashion with the world. I don’t think fashion will be my first career… it’s much more of a “full-time hobby”. It’s something I like to have fun with. If I had to name one goal, however, I would like to someday go to some major fashion week.

YOUR BLOG – IS IT BUSINESS OR PURE FUN?

As I said just now, I blog for fun. I don’t intend to make a career in fashion.

WHO’S YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DESIGNER?

Uh, that’s a tough one… I’ll have to say Elie Saab.

WHAT IN HIS DESIGN IS IT THAT DOES IT FOR YOU?

He makes the most elegant pieces and manages to keep them simple. I really treasure these two qualities, especially when they are together. I believe simplicity is really getting lost these days, and I find that a shame.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE?

My dream come true, “fashion-wise”, would be to be invited to NY or Paris fashion week. I just think the atmosphere must be magnificent!

DO YOU INTERACT WITH YOUR READERS?

I don’t really have the time to answer all of my comments, but I love to interact with my readers. If they ask me a question, whether in the comments or by e-mail, I always answer faithfully.

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU TO HAVE A LOT OF READERS?

To have a lot of readers is important for any blog in terms of recognition and sharing. The more readers, the more views, the more “established” you get as a blogger. However I believe this should never be the main focus in itself.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A CELEBRITY?

Oh my god, no! I am just a normal 18 year old girl that happens to own a blog some people like to visit… I don’t think that makes me any kind of celebrity.

WHAT HAS BLOGGING MEANT TO YOU – WHAT HAS BEEN THE OUTCOME?

Well, the outcome has been really positive… Blogging has been a truly wonderful experience to me. It combines various activities I enjoy, such as getting dressed, doing my makeup, photographing, modeling, writing… So I have been having a blast doing it. Also I already got some freebies out of it, which don’t hurt at all! :)

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR LIFE WOULD BE LIKE IF YOU NEVER STARTED BLOGGING?

Much more boring, that’s for sure. I mean, blogging has not only allowed me to share my views, but also to see the world of some other bloggers I follow… that, for me, is really enriching since most of them live in different countries and cultures.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO GET OUT OF BEING A MEMBER OF BLOGGER’S WARDROBE?

Of course I expect some recognition for my blog, it would be untrue not to say it. But I also expect to be able to wear a whole new variety of brands that I really like, and to help them get the recognition they surely deserve!

HI ASHLEY, WELCOME TO BLOGGER’S WARDROBE!

TELL US HOW YOU STARTED BLOGGING?

It all started with one heart-crushing breakup and Cocktail Chic was born on an airplane somewhere between Oregon and California. Cocktail Chic, originally a dating and relationship column with a twist, comparing every day to a cocktail, started as a mere dear diary entry for me to vent. Now, years (and many boyfriends) later, Cocktail Chic is an all-encompassing relationship, beauty, and lifestyle blog; an outlet no longer for venting, but for exploring and informing.

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO PERSONAL STYLE?

As most fashion bloggers, I find inspiration in fellow fashion journalists and the influx of fashion magazines that arrive daily in my mailbox and inbox. Outside of the fashion community, I keep my eyes peeled walking the streets of New York, looking for that one new “IT” thing to set my outfit apart from the sea of signature NY black.

WHAT OTHER BLOGS DO YOU READ?

If I gave you my daily blog reading list you wouldn’t believe it; it tops out at over 600.

WHAT’S YOUR GOAL WITH YOUR BLOG AND BLOGGING?

When I started my blog, my initial intention was to have a personal outlet but over the years my blogging priorities have shifted; my blog now acts as my professional portfolio along with my social media accounts.

YOUR BLOG – IS IT BUSINESS OR PURE FUN?

Both – Balance it key; if you no longer enjoy blogging it will be evident to your readers.

WHO’S YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DESIGNER?

This has to be the most challenging question to answer so far. Can I plead the fifth?

WHAT IN HIS/HER DESIGN IS IT THAT DOES IT FOR YOU?

Say I DID name my favorite designer; they would have to encompass such a versatile style, that depending on my mood and where in the world I was, I could wear them.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE?

In the next 5 years, I hope to (I WILL) start my own fashion social media firm. *le sigh*

DO YOU INTERACT WITH YOUR READERS?

Daily, via social media; it’s crucial that there is an ongoing communication and understanding between a blogger and their readers.

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU TO HAVE A LOT OF READERS?

As cliché as it sounds, it isn’t about quantity, it’s about quality. It is, however, important to have a consistently growing number of readers and follows and not to remain stagnant.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A CELEBRITY?

I started my blog anonymously under the pen name ‘Cocktail Chic’ for a reason.

WHAT HAS BLOGGING MEANT TO YOU – WHAT HAS BEEN THE OUTCOME?

It has meant an outlet for my opinions (of which there are a lot of) and advice as well as a source of income.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR LIFE WOULD BE LIKE IF YOU NEVER STARTED BLOGGING?

I would not be in the career I am and would instead be a lost 20-something, living a life similar to the main character in ‘Girls’.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO GET OUT OF BEING A MEMBER OF BLOGGER’S WARDROBE?

Without gushing TOO much, I am honored to be part of Blogger’s Wardrobe; a community that is generous enough to connect bloggers with designers, one another, and readers. I hope not only to expand my blog’s reach but to also work with little known brands to increase their exposure.
